When choosing a baby cot, safety should of course be the first consideration. There are many different things to consider here. For example, all paintwork, especially on the bars, must be saliva-resistant. After all, babies and toddlers discover the world through their mouths, especially in the beginning.
In the case of height-adjustable slats, there must be at least 30 cm between the bottom of the bed and the top edge of the slats. This prevents the baby from falling out of bed when the slatted frame is in the up position. In the lowest position, there should definitely be at least 60 cm, because toddlers are real masters at climbing over the bars.
Of course, a baby cot must not have any sharp or pointed parts on which the baby could injure itself. Moreover, cords, ribbons, dummy chains and the like can get caught on these, as well as on protruding parts and gaps, and serious injuries can occur here too.
All screws and bolts must be really tight so that on the one hand nothing can get caught on them and on the other hand they cannot come loose so that the toddler could swallow these parts. In addition, loose screws and bolts make the whole cot unstable and wobbly.
Make sure that the bars have a distance of at least 4.5 cm and a maximum of 7.5 cm.
As far as safety is concerned, the mattress for baby and toddler beds must be tested for harmful substances. You can find out more about mattresses in our corresponding category here in the Kinderzimmershop.ch online shop.
